As a child I remember lining up and listening for the immortal phrase “Ready, Set…….GO!” I would take off running as fast as we could and would not stop until the finish line was met. Even if shoelaces conspired against anyone for that race, the next race we would be lined up. Everyone, skinned knees and all, waited for the three words to be uttered once more. As adults I believe that we have forgotten how important the last part of the phrase is; GO!
“GO!” is the single most important part of this whole equation. Without “GO!”, nothing happens. Everyone just stand there waiting for something to happen. For quite a few of us in the world we think of all the things that we want to do it life. We write these ideas down to solidify the thought to paper. Tell people around us that this is what we are going to do with our life, but then we don’t “GO!” We just stand still waiting for something to happen. We have to remember the GO Part! I know that there are a number of reasons that this doesn’t happen for us. Money, time and knowledge seem to be towards the top of the list in a substantial number of cases.
Actually, if you want to know the main reason, I will tell you but you are not going to like it because you already know the answer. The main reason that we don’t do something is fear that we might fail. We are afraid that if we start running we are going to trip over our shoelaces and fall. It would be soooo embarrassing to go to the family reunion or to a party with a group of friends and for all of them to know that you did not succeed. I don’t know why this is since you went farther than most of the other people that you talk to and are friends with. There is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about in these failures. At the very least you will have some amazing stories to tell them.
This is not just applied to starting a business or going off on your own but everything. Learning how to fly an airplane, traveling to another country, speaking another language, raise chinchillas in your bathtub for fun and profit. These ideas and more are all yours for the taking, all you have to do is remember the GO Part! Once you have started, the task at hand does not seem so daunting. Once someone sets their mind to doing something, they have decided, they have committed, they are more apt to move forward.
I realize looking back on this post that it sounds like all of those self-help gurus trying to sell you a book or buy one of their tapes but this is exactly the reason that these people make money and will continue to make money preaching the same sermon to all of us. We don’t want to start because we are afraid of failing. There is no way to be a millionaire (or a billionaire) if you don’t “GO!” Stop reading this post and start living your dream, whatever that may be!
This is such great life advice! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for the comments! We always think of what we need to do but the GO part usually never happens.
I quite like this post. It’s a gentle reminder not to let our fear hold us back and just GO.
It is always our innate fear that we are going to fail so we come up with excuses instead of going for it and succeeding. Why is failure such a bad thing, it shows us that was not the way and to try another ways
You are right in what you shared in your post. I have written and encouraged others very often to not quit. It’s important to begin and complete things. It’s what happens in between that impacts the success in it. Thank you for sharing this post. 🤗
